Schedule

This is a tentative schedule for our course. When available I will provide a link to copies of the lecture outlines. These outlines only list the topics covered, they never give detail or examples. The latter will be provided in class. Should you ever miss a class, make sure you get lecture notes from one of your classmates. The notes provided below are meant to give you quick access to definitions and basic facts. They are not meant to be used as classnotes, they do not contain enough detailed information to be substituted for a lecture.


1: Week of August 27 - Chapter 1 - Functions
Note that most of chapter 1 is review of materials from pre-calculus and college algebra. We will move fairly quick through this material.

2: Week of September 3

Tuesday: Section 1.6 Power, Polynomials and Rational Functions; Reading Assignment for Section 1.7
Wednesday: Section 1.7 Introduction to Continuity; Worksheet for section 1.7
Friday: Section 1.8 Limits; Worksheet for section 1.8

3: Week of September 10
Chapter 2 is about the concept of the derivative. This chapter will answer the question: "What does the derivative of a function mean?".
Computing derivatives and other techniques for finding the derivative will be covered in chapter 3.
Monday:  Section 2.1 How do we measure speed?
Tuesday: Section 2.2 The derivative at a point.
Wednesday: Section 2.3 The derivative function.
Friday: Section 2.4 Interpretations of the Derivative.
