Projects are fun to do with students. We would like you to brainstorm some ideas.

What would be some possibilities besides the two assignments we described in the workshop?

  • Given a tessellation by parallelograms, investigate what possible tessellations could result. What are the possible symmetry groups?
  • Same question, but start with a tessellation by squares.
  • What type of isometries could one use if we started with semi-regular tessellations?
  • Pick a list of tessellations for the students to compare and contrast. Have them write a paper.

Question:

  • Outline an assignment for your students based on one of the ideas mentioned above (or something else you think would work).
  • What exactly will you ask your students to do? How much artwork? How big a paper? Do they turn in preliminary work?
  • How will you grade the project? What percent of the grade will be artwork, what percent will be the paper?
  • When grading, what would your expectations be for an A? For a C?
