Bryan, I do not have scans of any of my student's work at this time, but I'll bring my digital camera to work and try to get some uploaded. I did some searching yesterday and found the patterns and tesselations of the Kolam interesting and believe it could bring more depth to the cultural aspect of the connection between art and mathematics. Below are my links and basic questions. I am not sure how to use the Wiki edit or where we are supposed to put our worksheet offerings.

1. Consider the three tiles, Example 1, page 58 - 59, formed by Kolam patterns around nine dots. How are they similar; different?

2. Identify any symmetries within the tiles.

3. The tiles are joined by pasting rules to form border elements. What patterns and symmetries are allowed by the pasting rules? What symmetries exist in the borders?

4. Consider the patterns around six dots arranged with three dots in two rows. What symmetries and borders can be constructed?
