Talk:Klee Exploration
From Prep08Wiki
This is designed to be an introductory activity to get students talking about what they see in paintings, including seeing and describing shapes, noticing symmetry, and talking about patterns. It could be good to use early on in a course.Angela 16:32, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
For the "depth" question (Question #2) in the "Six Types" section -- if students struggle with this question, ask them to focus on the figure in the lower left. Does this figure look cube-like? Compare the figure to an actual cube (it would be helpful to have an actual cube for comparison). describe how the figure in the painting is like the actual cube and how it is different. We could ask them to examine the actual cube to see if it is possible to view it in such a way that it resembles the figure in the painting.Angela 20:10, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
In the "Curtain" section, a possible extension or homework question would be: "Draw a new panel for the painting, with a different pattern or patterns. Describe your pattern and how it is created."Angela 20:15, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
In trying to find the date of "Six Types" I discovered an article http://www.themightyorgan.com/reviews_klee.html about a Klee exhibit in which the paintings were organized according to Klee's six types, 'from "Square Paintings" to "Disrupted Rhythms".' It would be interesting to find names for all of Klee's six types to see if they are represented in this one painting.Debra June 27, 2008
