Life After Graduation
Graduates in mathematics and computer science are versatile. They enter many
career paths, including business, industry, governmant, and college teaching.
Many also pursue an MBA or other advanced degree.
Mathematics graduates may choose to attend graduate school to earn masters or
Ph.D. degrees in mathematics. Our students have gone on to earn these degrees at
Yale, Berkeley, University of Illinois, University of Iowa, University of Virginia
and Saint Louis University among others. They have then entered careers in
college and university teaching, business and industry at such places as Shell Oil,
Defense Mapping Agency, Georgia-Pacific, General American Life, National
Security Agency and Digital Equipment Corporation. Our graduates have also
earned graduate degrees in Business Administration, Computer Science, Physics,
Meteorology, Operations Research, Education and Statistics, among others.
Mathematics graduates have gone into secondary school teaching.
Computer Science graduates often get jobs with local firms such as Southwestern
Bell, Anheuser Busch, McDonnell Douglas, Electronic Data Systems, Arthur
Anderson, Ernst and Young. Our students from Spain often get jobs with the
Spanish branch of American companies like IBM, Ernst and Young and McKinsey
& Co. Many computer science majors work with computer consulting firms, for
example with Arthur Anderson and Ernst and Young. Some smaller companies for
which our graduates have gone to work as computer science specialists are Dension
Support Group, Harris Stowe College, Management Division Systems (Atlanta,
Ga.), Maritz Inc., Saint Louis University Medical Center, Booz, Allen and
Hamilton, General American Life, Saver Data Systems, Data Research Associates,
Pipkins Inc., and the American Airlines Reservation System.
