Daniel Shown has joined this chat. hello Good afternoon! vnc & qt OK QT works ok here Steve, did you download the installer? I tried, but I keep getting "PIN Expired" error. Russell Blyth has joined this chat. hi QT, VNC, AIM , Maple - it's all good here I think I'm finally good - AIM, QT and VNC all up 2:30 PM everyone up? John Willemain has joined this chat. I am ready everything is working here I did download the installer without problems. Try again, and if it fails I can email the (big) file to you. Jen Roche has joined this chat. Thanks, I will try again Sarah Raynor has joined this chat. David Schmitz has joined this chat. hi Do I use 165.134.13.229:5901 again in vnc? yes any q's? while we wait here vnc up and running Meg Onoda has joined this chat. Group assignments have been made and will appear on screen soon the current video url is rtsp://165.134.240.35/mvc070626pm.sdp but it appears everyone is doing well with that if you see any mistakes in AIM names, please inform us I see the list, am eager to learn from all. thnaks My cell number is 314-255-4293 if you need an invite, Mike my email: hennagin@obu.edu i CAN'T SEE THE LIST 2:35 PM richard, in vnc? phones home: 870-246-7705 office: 870-245-5596 no cell phones Correct what do you have in vnc? Polar integral worksheet Jan Hlavacek: jhlavace@svsu.edu, (989) 399-9619 (home), (989) 964-2004 The last one is office better now? Yes not to harp, but Mike, you have sent out two corrections for the Linux Maple 11 download, but is there an update on the windows download? Did it work for everyone else? Should I try it again? I'm seeing the list in vnc on "new" IP address. ok The windows download worked for me, but I still can't make the Linux one working what about the old? windows maple works for me windows works (in windows) on my personal laptop the new linux download works great on my machine the issue was with the license/purchase code I have windows working on two separate machines, but on one it stalls out after a few documents. we're having trouble with school machines for local reasons not the actual download What are the group assgnments? are you sure it is a local issue, because yesterday you said your issues were similar to mine? Nope, cleared with our IT ah Therre is no assignment listed where can we get email/phones? here? 2:40 PM email for Wilders is rjwilders@noctrl.edu thanks - i'm not so good at aiming... which group am I in? Thanks Rich. Mine is dburton@franciscan.edu Meg's is megumi.onoda@uwc.edu Got 'em. Me too. Jeff Abernathy has left this chat. can you please post this worksheet so we can follow it in maple? Can you label the x-axis in terms of Pi? David Mazur has left this chat. 2:45 PM Thanks, later is fine David Mazur has joined this chat. I'm not getting any VNC updates you should be seeing the animation what are you seeing on the VNC? vnc on 5901 (the new IP) is fine here How do you access the help function again? Help menu top right It's finally updating It is now showing the specific thing as a choice anymore animate? also works for help oops: ?animate is what I meant is there an animate with surfaces? maybe animatecurve3d? i see it. great 2:50 PM I copied the animante command and just got the coordinate system oh wow. i'm sold for sure now... nice, it that only in 11 also--rightclick on the plot; choose Plot->Axes->Properties ; uncheck "let rendered choose tickmarks" . Then you can play with stuff while looking at the graph This is what I was talking about 3:00 PM Why are there tildes with the variable a? Because we've made an assumption about the properties using the "Assume" command It is nice to use the interface command to suppress the tildas. 3:05 PM iterated integral is the name for it Do you find students use this to study for exams? But do they copy? 3:10 PM I expect my students to spend 3-4 hours per hw assignment. do you give points for homework? unfortunately, that is not what they expect in my experience of course, rewards for effort are important, comments on hw as well. do you find that your students can actually visualize the region from this sort of display? better than without - see next worksheet for an example ok If you do it on a Smartboard you can annotate and make things a little easier to understand problems trying to get good sketches by hand smartboard? Smartboard lets you annotate a screen image with an electronic pen. You can save all the images to a PowerPoint. oh I agree, sketches by hand are awful, but I find my students only get scared by this sort of maple picture also hmmm 3:15 PM One thing I did once was export this kind of picture in povray format, and ray-traced it. You can do it as an intersection of solids, so you just get the solid you want to integrate over. It's a pain, though. VNC crashed I'd love to know how to do that. Perhaps you can explain how to me later will be back now where are we in the mws? section 3.1.3? QT has really messed up on me - no audio and choppy picture. Should I just try to restart? yes Thanks let us know if that helps 3:20 PM That worked - thanks this is really nice, I wouldn't have thought to parametrize to get rid of the extraneous bits John Inciura has left this chat. i'm good looks ok to me me too 3:25 PM John Inciura has joined this chat. "IntVisual" -- what ? which package? ? I'm trying to find the command "intVisual" that Mike has in the worksheet... where does it live? IntVisual is a procedure that was defined at the upper part of the worksheet. Its not native to Maple. Oh, IntVisual is a function Mike defines earlier ah. i'll go back and see it later. thanks 3:30 PM Very cool! This beats my "remember double integration? do it once more" lecture... Is it possible to rotate and view the animation from a different angle? This is pretty cool! my maple worksheet isn't animating... is anyone else's in maple 11? on the toolbar at the to top The worksheet you distributed is not showing the animation I hit !!! and it's going wild yes it is, you have to hit the play button at the top on the toolbar just above the document ah, OK, i see the animation "menu" now. that was awesome Got it - right click and it pops up I think I missed some stuff because a student just randomly showed up wanting to know the formula for integrating factors however, hopefully I will be able to figure out how to use this because it was really awesome yeah, not to sound like a student but the code looks scary 3:35 PM cool So could you put them into a library and have them "with" iit instead of seeing it? I still like them to be able to see the code. Even though most of them will not go through it, some of them may, and they may actually learn more math from following the code than from looking at the pictures. 3:40 PM Gotta leave early -- great stuff today. Thank you! David Mazur has left this chat. ok, take care 3:45 PM I keep losing Audio you may try restarting quicktime My maple has gotten buggy - very slow to deal with anything - I' I'm having to wait a lot between commands executing welcome to my world lol 3:50 PM I'd be interested to see what can be done with vector fields. Will you post the worksheet you did today over break please? yes please I second the vector fields request Vector fields sound good to me The Tuesdayhw one it's going too fast to read the list, I assume you don't want us to respond now This is so new to me, I will have to got through my Cal3 book chapter by chapter to work on how to use Maple. Vector Fields sound good to me as well. do we have a link to that page? surface and line integrals? What was the URL for Euler John Willemain has left this chat. http://euler.slu.edu/courseware/Calculus/Calculus3-M10/AppletsAndMapleForCalculus3.html Thanks John Willemain has joined this chat. Planetary motion also sounds cool. How do you select multiple people to have a chat with? go to People menu We usually skip that section for lack of time, though. send chat invitation Do you know about Susan Wildstrom's absence today? I'll try email, but... 3:55 PM and students too Thank you....especially to the IT guys! Today was much improved!! yep: kudos to your IT folks... they NEVER get enough thanks...
