Russell Blyth: hi, ready to join the chat?
Julianne Rainbolt: hi russell

isrtsp://165.134.240.35/050707pm1.sdp
Russell Blyth: we're up!
Julianne Rainbolt: let us know how you are doing

Susan Pustejovsky has joined this chat.
Susan Pustejovsky: hi sorry i'm late
Matt Goeke: The vnc address is 165.134.131.96
Nikolaus Vonessen: I tried using GAP in a small graduate class, and it seem
to work ok, but I am not sure it is worth the time and effort. I would like to hear
from people who used in in an undergraduate class.
Matt Goeke: quicktime address isrtsp://165.134.240.35/050707pm1.sdp
Nikolaus Vonessen: Actually, I was wondering if it is worth the student's time
and effort.
Dorothy Zeiser: I tried to use it in an undergraduate class. The students had a
lot of trouble with the line editor and with loading and saving files.
Matt Goeke: Susan are you able to see and hear the video?
Susan Pustejovsky: I'm still working on it.
Nikolaus Vonessen: Can you give us a link for this?
Russell Blyth: hulpke
12:05 PM
Nikolaus Vonessen: Thanks.
Russell Blyth: susan any problems?
Nikolaus Vonessen: BTW, the video is much better than last year!
Matt Goeke: Susan have you been able to load the video yet?
Susan Pustejovsky: still "attempting to connect"
Dorothy Zeiser: yes
Michael Engquist: My first crack at teaching abstract algebra is spring 2006.
I'm hoping to do some games and puzzles such as Rubik's cube. any ideas?
Nikolaus Vonessen: I will teach an introductory undergraduate abstract
algebra class to about 20 students.
Russell Blyth: what about VNC susan
12:10 PM
Julianne Rainbolt: Dorothy, when I get up front again to do the Maple, can
you send me your latest Maple file through chat?
Dorothy Zeiser: yes
Julianne Rainbolt: great!
Julianne Rainbolt: thanks
12:15 PM
Julianne Rainbolt: welcome Susan
Dorothy Zeiser: These short examples look useful.
12:20 PM
Nikolaus Vonessen: When you give students GAP homework (lab)
assignments, do you let them work in groups?
Julianne Rainbolt: video stopped
Matt Goeke: quicktime address isrtsp://165.134.240.35/050707pm2.sdp
Julianne Rainbolt: up again with pm2
Julianne Rainbolt: everyone up?
Dorothy Zeiser: yes
Julianne Rainbolt: Anyone not able to see?
Michael Engquist: No audio here but video okay.
Nikolaus Vonessen: If you look carefully, you sent the wrong link (1 at end,
not 2).
Matt Goeke: The link for Quicktime changed to quicktime address
isrtsp://165.134.240.35/050707pm2.sdp
Julianne Rainbolt: All OK?
Nikolaus Vonessen: The link does not extend to the "2"; hidden in the link is
a "1" at the end.
Michael Engquist: I don't have audio.
Susan Pustejovsky: i have no audio either
Julianne Rainbolt: Michael - if no audio, try restarting QT
Julianne Rainbolt: we have audio here
Julianne Rainbolt: quit QT
Julianne Rainbolt: reopen QT
Julianne Rainbolt: reconnect
Julianne Rainbolt: to the URL we gave
12:25 PM
Julianne Rainbolt: Susan, OK?
Matt Goeke: rtsp://165.134.240.35/050707pm2.sdp
Nikolaus Vonessen: Audio and video stopped again.
Michael Engquist: I have both video and audio.
Julianne Rainbolt: NV: restart QT
Susan Pustejovsky: okay now
Nikolaus Vonessen: Video now ok.
Julianne Rainbolt: OK - great
12:45 PM
Dorothy Zeiser has left this chat.
Nikolaus Vonessen: GeneratorsOfGroup gives the generators of a group;
this should make it possible to extend the routine you talked about to groups with
more than two generators.

Julianne Rainbolt: we are up on video - any problems?
Michael Engquist: Do students work together in groups (tee hee) to learn
GAP? I have noticed this phenomenon with Maple. any comments?
Susan Pustejovsky: I've got video but no audio
